HVAC in Bel Air is rarely one thermostat and one unit. An estate runs several zones, often across wings built at different times, and a quote that treats it as a single system misses the job. Bel Air Cooling prices these homes zone by zone, in writing, before any work starts. If you are ready to replace a system or fix one that has quit, request the written quote for your Bel Air property and we will set the visit.
What a zone-by-zone quote looks like
You get one document with a section for each zone. Each section names the equipment serving that part of the house, what we recommend for it and what it costs. You can approve one zone, two or all of them.
The price is set by a short list of things we can only see on site:
- Tonnage of each system, which depends on the rooms it serves
- Whether the air handler sits in an attic, a crawl space or a mechanical room
- How far the line set and ductwork have to run
- Access to the equipment, including steep driveways, tight side yards and hillside pads
- Thermostat or zoning controls that need to be replaced along with the equipment
The cost of a full system is set after the visit, depending on tonnage and access difficulty. A house with several zones is the sum of its zones, and the written quote shows each one separately.
Replace or repair, one zone at a time
Not every zone needs the same answer. One wing may have a system that is failing while the rest of the house runs fine. We look at each zone on its own and tell you whether AC repair makes sense there or whether the money is better spent on new equipment.
If a repair is the right call, we say so and quote it. If a zone should be replaced, we explain what the new system would cost against the repair, and you choose. Repair callers are welcome here. The visit is not a sales pitch.
The compressor is the cost that can decide it. Running a frozen system damages the compressor, which costs $1,300 to $3,400 to replace. If a zone has been freezing up, shut it off and let us look before the damage grows.
Gated and hillside access
Upper Bel Air gated communities require advance clearance for service appointments. Give us the gate code or the contact for clearance when you book, and we plan the visit around it. For installs we also coordinate equipment delivery with the gate and the driveway, since a steep or narrow approach changes how a system gets to the pad.
If the house sits close to Brentwood, Westwood or Beverly Hills, the same visit applies. See the Bel Air service area for the neighborhoods we cover from here.
What the visit includes
We walk each zone, check the equipment that serves it and measure what the room or wing actually needs. Then we write it up.
- Equipment in each zone, listed by location
- Our recommendation for each zone: repair, replace or leave alone
- A written price for each option
- A schedule that fits your gate and access rules
For a new AC installation, the quote also covers permits. Replacing an AC, furnace, heat pump or ductwork in California is permitted work, and for City of Los Angeles neighborhoods like Bel Air the permit is issued by LADBS. Depending on the scope, Title 24 can also require duct sealing and a duct leakage test checked by a third-party HERS rater who is not the installer. We list those steps in the quote so they are not a surprise later.
When a mini split is the better fix for one room
Some rooms never fit the main system well. A guest house, a pool house or a converted wing can be easier to serve with a ductless mini split than with more ductwork. We include it as an option in the quote when it applies, priced as its own line.
Frequently asked questions
Do you quote gated properties?
Yes. Upper Bel Air gated communities require advance clearance for service appointments, so give us the gate details when you book. We schedule the visit and any equipment delivery around them.
Can I approve only one zone?
Yes. The written quote lists each zone separately, so you can approve the zone that is failing and hold the others. Each section stands on its own price.
Does a new system need a permit?
Replacing an AC, furnace, heat pump or ductwork in California is permitted work. In City of Los Angeles neighborhoods, LADBS issues the permit. We list the permit step in the quote.
What refrigerant will a new system use?
Since 1 January 2025, new residential split AC and heat pump systems are made with lower-GWP A2L refrigerants such as R-454B or R-32. Your quote names the equipment we propose.
Book the quote visit
